Projectworks appoints new CEO, CPO & President to drive international expansion
07 March 2024
Wellington New Zealand, 7 March 2023 - - Off the back of doubling revenue in 2023, high-growth Professional Services Automation software company Projectworks has recruited experienced software executive Mark Orttung as CEO. Previous CEO and Co-Founder Matt Hayter has taken the position of President and Chief Product Officer. On top of these strategic leadership changes, Projectworks is also recruiting a number of new hires across the US, Australia and New Zealand to further fuel their international growth.
“Over the past we’ve come to realize that we have the product, the team, the market, and the timing to build the next Salesforce or Atlassian. Now with Mark at the helm, and myself running the product function, those odds are meaningfully increased” says Matt Hayter.
Mark Orttung joins Projectworks as CEO after serving as an Independent Director on Projectworks' Board for the past 12 months, which has given him unique insight into the strengths of the business, team and the further international growth opportunity ahead.
"I’m fortunate to meet a lot of early stage companies. From the first time I met the Projectworks team, the company stood out to me as one that had the right combination of ability to help a large market, a great culture, and a fantastic product. I’m excited to be able to join the team and continue to build the platform to help our clients achieve their missions more successfully,” said Mark Orttung.
Previously Mark was President and Chief Operating Officer of fintech platform Bill.com for 7 years, and later Chief Executive Officer of consultancy firm Nexient, during which time he developed a passion for supporting consulting firms to be successful.
"I developed a passion for working with small and medium businesses while I was at Bill.com. While I was at Nexient, I developed a passion for helping services firms stand out and scale rapidly. The platform Projectworks has built brings both of these together into a single opportunity,” says Orttung.
After successfully establishing Projectworks high-performance revenue leadership team, previous Chief Executive Matt Hayter is taking the newly created roles of Chief Product Officer and President in order to lead major strategic product development with an emphasis on fuelling further growth in the US market.
“We’re at the point where a CPO makes sense to ensure our systems work together in harmony, their supporting teams are adequately resourced, and in many cases, they have their own roadmaps that feed into our product strategy and customer experience,” says Matt Hayter.
On top of these strategic leadership appointments, Projectworks is actively recruiting for a number of key hires to further accelerate business growth in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
